GRAND LODGE MIXED OF GREECE

PRINCIPLES OF OUR CHARTER

The Grand Lodge Mixed of Greece, following the Laws of the State and Masonic Law, is a non-profit Federation of Symbolic Lodges (also known as “Craft Lodges”), which administer the first three degrees of Symbolic Masonry: the Entered Apprentice, Fellowcraft and Master Mason. Individuals cannot become members of the Grand Lodge Mixed of Greece.

The federation known as the Grand Lodge Mixed of Greece was founded in 1926, and operated with an unwritten charter in accordance with the then laws of the land. As part of its reorganisation in 2022, for the convenience of its members and to make it easier to prove the content of its principles, a Charter was drawn up.

The Federation’s purpose is to promote of the ideals of Freemasonry for the benefit and progress of the individual, and of society as a whole. Some of the activities it focuses on include performing charitable acts, synchronising social initiatives at a national level, working with other forces of Symbolic Freemasonry, and representing its members internationally.

Every Member Lodge remains autonomous and self-governing, but must participate in and assist the actions of the Federation.

The admission of a Lodge as a member of the Federation is decided by the latter’s Board within one month of receiving an online application. The candidate member must already be in existence when the application is made and must consist of at least seven (7) people. It must be a “Symbolic Lodge” and carry out Masonic work based on the three symbolic degrees of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, or another Rite of its choice that is recognised and compatible with the positions of the Grand Lodge Mixed of Greece. Any Lodge may leave the Federation with a written declaration, which takes effect at the end of the calendar year in question once any outstanding financial obligations have been settled.

The rules of the Grand Lodge Mixed of Greece determines how the Representatives of the Symbolic Lodges vote proportionally in administrative elections. Each Lodge elects one Officer for every seven members and participates accordingly and to the best of its ability in the Administrative Organisation. Representatives are elected on the basis of the charter of each Lodge and are immediately notified to the federation.

Every three years, the Assembly of Symbolic Lodge Representatives elects a Board of Directors, called the “Grand Council”, consisting of seven to thirteen Members, which is presided over by the Grand Master or Mistress and supplemented by the Grand Officers, with powers as defined by the Scottish Rite.

The Federation interacts with a number of Masonic associations, signing Treaties of Amity and participating in international Masonic organisations.

The association’s income comes from the subscriptions of its members and any donations or other revenue and gains.
